1 Million Per Meter Yachts… and We Got Seasick 🤢 Ep. 49

Home » Blog » 1 Million Per Meter Yachts… and We Got Seasick 🤢 Ep. 49

Welcome back aboard SV Luna. Our journey starts like something out of a postcard. Flat seas. Sunshine. Sailing past the stunning coastline of Portofino, surrounded by some of the most incredible mega yachts in the world — including *Seven Seas*, once owned by Steven Spielberg. For a moment… everything feels effortless. But the moment we leave the protection of the coast and head into open sea — the sails go up… the wind builds… and reality hits. Fast. The captain is smiling. The kids… not so much. And with every knot the wind increases… our enthusiasm drops just as quickly.

This is the part of sailing you don’t see on Instagram:
🤢 Seasickness
🌊 Unpredictable conditions
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parenting without a pause button
🏠 A moving home that never stands still Because living on a boat isn’t just freedom — it’s also chaos, adaptation, and letting go of control.

⚙️ **MAINTENANCE — THE WORD YOU DON’T WANT TO SAY
And then there’s *maintenance*. The one word every boat owner knows… and secretly fears. Because on a boat, it doesn’t matter when or where — if something breaks, you fix it. Immediately. In this episode, one of our engines starts acting up. Which means Kay disappears into the engine room… twisting himself into impossible positions, diagnosing, adjusting, repairing… Boat yoga at its finest. Life at sea is not just about sailing — it’s about solving problems. Every single day.
💸 **LUXURY YACHTS VS REAL LIFE As we continue our journey, we sail past Monaco — a place where luxury reaches another level. Mega yachts line the coastline. Floating mansions worth tens of millions. As a rough estimate, many of these yachts cost around: 💰 €1 million per meter 💰 +10% yearly running costs 💰 Crew, fuel, maintenance, mooring… it never stops It’s a world that feels far away from ours. And yet… we sail right through it. **WHAT REALLY MATTERS** But then… there’s this moment. (Beau with his homemade raft) No engines. No crew. No million-euro price tag. Just imagination. And suddenly, everything becomes very clear. Because the most valuable moments out here… can’t be bought. 🏁 **WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE** We refuel in Monaco and continue our journey along the coast towards Beaulieu-sur-Mer. And then… out of nowhere… A completely different kind of machine appears. Speed. Power. Precision. The yacht of none other than Max Verstappen — *Unleash the Lion* — flies past us. A surreal moment where two completely different worlds meet: Extreme luxury and performance… and real family life at sea. **THIS IS LIFE AT SEA** This episode is about contrast. Luxury vs simplicity. Control vs chaos. Dream vs reality. And everything in between. Because this is not a highlight reel. This is real life on a sailing catamaran. **SUBSCRIBE & FOLLOW THE JOURNEY** If you enjoy honest, unfiltered sailing life — make sure to subscribe and join us for the next episode.
