Intro:
Life on a sailboat is never boring. From unpredictable winds to Jack Sparrow dreams, from children’s volcano experiments to cheering for our national football team on a tiny screen — every week brings new adventures. In this blog, we share the ups, downs, and unforgettable moments of our latest journey along the stunning coast of Sardinia, also known as the Maldives of Europe.
Help with Homeschooling
Cerys stayed with us for four weeks, helping out with homeschooling. Every day she spent two hours with the little ones, practicing crafts, letters, numbers, and even music lessons — something I’m definitely not talented in.
Living on a boat means spending a lot of time together as a family, which is wonderful, but it’s also nice to have a little space for myself. Having Cerys on board gave me exactly that. Plus, we were lucky enough to welcome friends too — Anne and Martijn joined us for part of the trip. In the video, you’ll see Anne glowing with her baby bump, her little one safe and sound inside.

Time to Play
The fliteboard has become the biggest hit on board. Kay is getting pretty good at it, and Martijn also gave it a try, learning the art of “fliting.” We also pulled out the floaties so the kids could enjoy a little ride.
Life at sea often brings out the playful side of everyone. We turned a lesson into fun by making a homemade volcano with vinegar and baking soda. Don’t worry — it’s not harmful to the environment! The kids loved it so much, they’re still talking about it.
And of course, nothing beats movie nights in a beautiful bay. With the big projector screen set up, great sound, and good company, it felt like our own private floating cinema.
Soccer Fever
This year, the Dutch national team did an amazing job at the Euro Cup! We were so proud to watch them reach the semi-finals. Cheering them on from the boat, gathered around the big screen, made it even more special.

Challenges on Board
Life on a sailboat also brings challenges. One of the biggest is waste disposal — we can’t just drop it anywhere. Luckily, when the garbage boat heads to shore, we finally get to send it off properly.
Strong winds tested us as well. Kay added a second anchor to keep us steady, which proved essential later when gusts ripped our lazy bag. That night turned into an unexpected team-building adventure as we worked together to keep everything under control.
Sailing, Exploring & Hidden Treasures
We also had some perfect sailing days. With the Code 0 — a light-wind sail that gives the boat extra power in gentle breezes — we managed to glide smoothly along Sardinia’s coast. Transit docks made it easy to explore charming towns, and we were reminded of how kind strangers can be when helping us dock.
The kids discovered new playgrounds, while we explored Sardinia’s natural beauty. Cala Luna surprised us with goats that wandered the beach at night, and an old warplane resting in the shallows told stories of the island’s history.
Paradise Mornings
Despite storms, ripped sails, and lost football matches, every morning felt like waking up in paradise. The kids loved paddleboarding in the calm bays, while I kept watch, surrounded by Sardinia’s crystal-clear waters and dramatic cliffs.
They call Sardinia the Maldives of Europe — and it truly deserves the name. With its white sands, turquoise waters, and wild beauty, it’s one of the most breathtaking places we’ve ever been.
Conclusion
Life at sea is unpredictable, but that’s exactly what makes it so magical. From goats on beaches to family movie nights under the stars, every day brings something new.
Next week, we set sail across to Mallorca — so stay tuned, and don’t forget to subscribe to our channel for more adventures!
